Thousands of Thai people took to the street in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, to demand reforms in mid-August. It was the biggest anti-government protest since the military seized power in 2014.
Protesters, young and old, demanded amendments to the Constitution and called for reform of the country’s monarchy. Under Thai law, those who criticize or defame the royal family will serve lengthy prison sentences. The military-written constitution has been used as a political tool against the people.
After the student-led rallies almost every day for weeks, several leaders of the protests were arrested. However, the demonstration, attended by approximately 10,000 protestors, showed people’s desire for change.
