90-year old Italian woman returns to school

Annunziata Murgia, a 90-year old Italian woman who missed out on formal education because of the Second World War, has returned to the classroom to study for her school diploma. She has become the oldest person ever in her class for the middle school diploma.

“I like studying,” she said, “but when the war broke out, everything changed for me. I had to go and work, as my family struggled and I had to play my part.”

Murgia’s teacher described her as a very passionate and engaged pupil. She also said that the average age of students in Murgia’s class is 40-plus, mostly women who supplement their education after having children.

Don’t miss out on the fantastic bargains in our summer sale.
We didn’t have a TV at home when I was young, and I felt as though I missed out.
