To expand its online marketplace, US retail giant Walmart recently decided to collaborate with Shopify, a Canadian e-commerce platform. With the collaboration, Walmart will increase its 3rd-party sellers.
Walmart believes that the collaboration will improve small- and medium-sized businesses, which can benefit from the increased traffic on Walmart.com. Also, Walmart will now have better competitiveness with its rival, Amazon, whose 3rd-party sellers make up nearly half of e-commerce sales.
Online sales have increase rapidly as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Walmart’s e-commerce sales increased by 74% in the first quarter of 2020.
