Once there lived in a forest a tortoise and a hare.
The hare was very proud of his speed, boasting of how he could run faster than anyone else, and teasing tortoise for his slowness. One day, the hare thought they should have a race.
The irate tortoise said: “Who do you think you are? There’s no denying you’re swift, but even you can be beaten!” The hare squealed with laughter, saying, “I bet there’s nobody in the world that can win against me, I’m so speedy. Now, why don’t you try?”
It was decided: the race was on. The crow was the referee. A course was planned, and the next day at dawn they stood at the starting line. The hare ran very fast. The tortoise was left far behind.
