A BBC article said that even though Taiwan’s tough border restrictions have helped keep the virus at bay, the local population and the government have become complacent.Finally, when Taiwan relaxed its quarantine requirements for non-vaccinated airline pilots, a cluster broke out and then spread through the community.

A professor at the National University of Singapore said that Taiwan put too much emphasis on border control and not enough on measures to prevent local spread.
