Actors and celebrities in the UK speak out to fight entrenched ageism in the film industry

More than 100 British actors and public figures signed an open letter to the UK entertainment industry to tackle “Entrenched Ageism.” The Acting Your Age Campaign (AYAC) claimed in the letter that instead of having a “whole life” as the male actors in the UK do, women actors only have a “shelf life” on screen. The group called for more women over 45 to appear on screen and urged a “parity pledge.”

The AYAC has been campaigning for equal representation between men and women over 45 in the UK for years. It has given multiple recommendations for the industry, including that all fictional content should have a 50:50 equal gender and age representation.
