A year-long Chinese study found that time-restricted dieting may not work. Previous studies of shorter period had suggested that eating within a six-to eight-hour daily window might help weight loss, as some researchers believe that circadian rhythms accounted for these differences.
The latest study divided 139 obese people into two groups. One group ate a low-calorie diet only between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.; the other group consumed the same amount of calories at any time of the day. They all lost weight, but neither group lost more than the other.
The study also suggests that caloric intake restriction seems more effective than the time-restricted eating regime.
