台灣民眾投票表達意願，通過門檻罷免高雄市長Voters in Kaohsiung Oust a China-Friendly Mayor

The mayor of Kaohsiung, Han Kuo-yu, lost the recall vote on June 6. Han took a three-month leave of absence from his new mayoral duties to run for president, which upset Kaohsiung voters. So did his pro-China stance.

The vote to remove Han needed the support of at least 25 percent of the city’s 2 million eligible voters. In the end, more than 939,000 votes were cast to recall him, far exceeding the threshold. Han accepted the result and conceded defeat.

The vote is the first time that Taiwanese voters have removed a mayor from office. Since Han declared not to appeal, a new election will be held within three months.
